According to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, thousands of gallons of raw sewage spilled during three incidents in Sarasota County over the past weeks.

The first incident happened on May 22 when a lawn mower damaged an air release valve on Jacaranda Boulevard, sending 6,500 gallons of sewage into a swale.

On June 11, a pump station failed, sending 1,000 gallons of sewage into the ground at Riverview High School off Proctor Road.

The third and final incident happened five days later after grease blocked a sewer pipe in the 1600 block of Siesta Drive, spilling another 1,000 gallons of overflow sewage.
