The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a murder in Sarasota.

A deputy who was on routine patrol around midnight Tuesday morning found a man’s body at Curtiss Avenue and Gulf Gate Drive. An autopsy showed that the victim, identified as 49 year old James Brotherton of Port Charlotte, had been shot just before midnight. More importantly, sheriff’s investigators said just after the shooting, a car passed by the scene, and deputies want to talk to whoever was in the car. Brotherton’s vehicle was found near Stickney Point Road and Gateway Drive around 5:20 a.m. on Tuesday. If you know anything, call Crimestoppers.
