You’ve seen the Sheriff’s Office Community Policing Officers in your neighborhoods and business areas in cars, on bikes and on foot. Starting today they’ll also be seen on ‘police package’ Segways. The Sheriff’s Office has two Segway Patrollers, which are specially designed for law enforcement duties. With a yellow finish and built-in flashing blue and red lights, these Segways will provide the deputies using them with an additional eight inches of height to survey their surroundings while allowing them more flexibility in movement. The agency’s Community Policing Officers have been trained in the proper use of the devices and are starting their tour of duty in the parking lots of the Port Charlotte Town Centre Mall.
