There will be no ballot referendum on term limits for Sarasota County Commissioners. A circuit court judge ruling the language in the ballot question was misleading to voters, in part because of how it described that the two-term limits currently written into the county’s charter were unconstitutional.
The ruling is a culmination of a lawsuit filed by sixteen citizens who argued that the language in the ballot question was confusing and that existing two-term limits added to the county’s charter in 1998 should be enforceable immediately. The judge did not rule on that part of the suit, however.
