The federal government appears to be coming after money it says Charlotte County owes…dating back nearly 15 years.

After Hurricane Charley devastated the county, in August of 2004, FEMA reimbursed the county for $37 million in projects.

It took a number of years for homeowners and businesses to recover and rebuild, with some parts of Charlotte County undergoing reconstruction projects as recently as 2014.

The agency recently notified the county that it ‘overpaid’ for projects. No word on how much the county may have to pay back.
