The $17-million dollar 4-lane divided road runs three miles from
South McCall Road to Placida Road. To get it, the Herald-Tribune reports voters had to agree to a penny sales tax that provided the money for the work which started in November 2013. The project was wrapped up 5-months ahead of schedule. The project, which included street lights, miles of drains, and traffic signals at SR 776 and Placida Road creates another emergency evacuation route for western Charlotte County. Former County Commissioner Mac Horton and his wife were the first people to ride down the extension. He’s credited with refusing to let the project get derailed.
