Venice Mayor John Holic wants residents and businesses in Venice to get a break on their Sarasota County property tax bills because sheriff’s deputies do not patrol within the city limits. Yesterday Holic told the City Council he plans to get “hard numbers” about the potential savings. The Herald Tribune reports once Holic has those figures, he wants to ask the mayors of Sarasota, North Port and Longboat Key if they want to raise the same issue with their commissions.
