Starting October 1st, Venice officials will be making a different use of the revenue from the penny sales tax. The Herald-Tribune reports the city plans to fix and replace its old and leaky water and sewer lines. City Finance director Jeff Snyder says that means about $1-million in sales taxes next year and hopefully for the 5-years after that to keep the Utilities Department from raising rates to pay for the work. The new budget will be finalized in September.
