The Venice City Council is holding off on a plan that would have seen the city collect mobility and park impact fees on new construction.

At a Wednesday night meeting, city attorney Kelly Fernandez told the board that the city could not just simply double the amount that the county collects.

Fernandez said legally, the city would have to create both its own method and justification for the fees, which means hiring a consultant, then employees to administer the fees.

This revelation comes despite the city council voting -back in September- to start the fee process. Mayor John Holic and the board are now looking to next month’s meeting to reconsider that vote.
