Venice Challenger Baseball broke ground Thursday morning on what will eventually be their new ball fields on Gulf Coast Boulevard.

The organization still needs around $250K to reach their lofty $1.2M goal to pay for and develop the fields before they can be completed.

Director and President of the team Rich Carroll told ABC-7 they hope to have everything done by next spring.

Challenger Baseball is a league created specifically for kids with special needs who cannot play Little League.
