Venice and North Port today decided to work together on several mutual projects which could benefit all of Sarasota County, including the unincorporated areas.  The Herald-Tribune reports among those ideas are lower county taxes for communities that have their own police departments and don’t rely on Sheriff’s patrols.   Venice’s and North Port’s city managers and police chiefs are to look into whether the two police departments could jointly staff the now closed South County Jail holding cells and transfer suspects to the main jail, without relying on the Sheriff’s Office, as well as a South County Wi-Fi network.
