A study from the University of South Florida has identified development as a top concern in Sarasota County.

The survey has asked 800 people to give input on the area’s top issues, and 27 percent of them have named new development and population growth as a big item.

That represents an increase from last year’s 21 percent.

County planner Elma Felix tells WWSB-TV that no matter how you feel about this single issue, you can strike a balance between encouraging new development and managing growth.

She also points out that 95 percent of people taking the survey call the quality of life in the county either “good” or “excellent.”
