Regional unemployment has increased with more seasonally dependent companies cutting staff for the summer.

Charlotte County’s jobless rate has increased in the last month from 4.7 percent to 5.2 percent.

However, that number sits much lower than it did a year ago. Charlotte County’s unemployment rate at this time last year came out to 5.9 percent.

The Department of Economic Opportunity says nonagricultural employment has increased 3.1 percent in the last year.
