Florida’s jobless rate dropped slightly in May, from 7.2% in April to 7.1%. The bad news is the actual number of jobs statewide fell by 6200 last month. State economists say the big reason for the decline in jobs is people leaving the work force or holding off on looking for a job. The May rate is the lowest it has been in Florida since September 2008. There are now an estimated 671,000 Floridians out of work.
