A move is afoot to put power lines underground in areas around Punta Gorda. After severe weather damage areas of Southwest Florida they want to avoid that same fate again which brought down the power lines. This has been in discussion for some time but residents say now is the time to put the wires underground. It would mean a lot of work and money but there is federal money available to help pay for the more than 7 million dollar project. There needs to be an engineering study and cost assessment but the tide is turning toward undergound electric service.
