Tolls expected to rise on Boca Grande Causeway. The Gasparilla Island Bridge Authority meeting today to talk about a likely hike in Causeway tolls from five dollars per vehicle to six or seven. The increases are needed in order to help ease a projected one-point-seven million dollar budget shortfall. Another 45-million is needed to replace two fixed bridges and one swing bridge, all of which were built in the 1950s. Another issue with tolls is reduced traffic: around 65-thousand fewer vehicles cross Boca Grande Causeway than did just five years ago.
