Third Suspect Arrested in Punta Gorda Double Murder

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – On Friday, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office revealed the apprehension of a third suspect connected to the double homicide on Trail’s End Drive.

Justin Casagranda was apprehended in Athens, Georgia. The Sheriff disclosed that Casagranda, identified as a family acquaintance, had previously resided at the residence where the killings occurred.

The  incident unfolded on Jan. 24 at a residence in Punta Gorda, where Mario Schiano and Anthony Galeotti were discovered fatally shot.

Court records indicate that Kelly Schiano, spouse of one victim, was arrested for murder on Feb. 5. Another family friend, Everett Harper, faced similar charges. Investigators allege that Casagranda acted as the gunman, purportedly hired to execute the crime.

Detectives, during their probe, established Casagranda’s presence at the scene on the day of the incident, tracing his journey from Athens, Georgia to Punta Gorda.

A search of Casagranda’s Athens residence yielded a firearm, leading to his arrest on charges of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. Subsequently, murder charges were levied against him.

Casagranda is slated for extradition to Charlotte County for trial.
