(Port Charlotte) Even as Operation Parkside continues to target crime in the Parkside area, the Sheriff’s Office is gearing up for Team Parkside, an event where members of the community can meet and talk with members of various county groups that are working toward the Parkside redevelopment.

The “Team Parkside” event is scheduled for Saturday June 8 from 9 am to 1 pm at McGuire Park in Port Charlotte. The theme is “Teaming Together for a Safer Community.” Despite Tropical Storm Andrea, McGuire Park was in good shape this morning, thanks to the work of Parks and Recreation personnel.

The Sheriff’s Office will have displays set up from the Traffic Unit, Marine Unit, Mounted Patrol Unit, SWAT Team, K-9 Unit and the Dive Team. Members will be available to answer questions on crime prevention, sexual predators, and to assist with bike registrations. Sheriff Bill Prummell will be there, as well, to meet with members of the community.

But the redevelopment of the Parkside area involves more than just the Sheriff’s Office, so there will be other county groups at the event. The Port Charlotte Library will have a table devoted to their summer reading program and will be discussing anti-bullying strategies. Parks and Natural Resources will be available to discuss environmental issues. The Extension Office and 4H Volunteers will be there, along with a fire engine from Charlotte County Fire and EMS.

A bounce-house will be set up, along with games for children.

Members of the community are invited to stop by Team Parkside on Saturday to check out the displays and get to know the county personnel who are working in the Parkside area.
