An 83-year old woman reported a check stolen from her home June 26th. A man tried to cash it the same day at a Venice bank. They wouldn’t cash it. The Herald-Tribune reports the victim went to the bank the same day, confirming she didn’t write a $700 check to anyone. Meanwhile, a man walked into a fabric store farther down Tamiami, and walked out with an employees purse and drove off in their car. He was wearing the same clothing as the suspect seen in the bank’s surveillance video. 29-year old Robert May was caught on Main Street in Sarasota, and faces charges including forgery and grand theft.
