Minor-league baseball appears to be staying in Charlotte County despite rumors that have been swirling recently over the possibility of the Charlotte Stone Crabs leaving the area once its pending sale is complete. That sale took another step forward this morning when county commissioners approved the lease transfer of Charlotte Sports Park from Ripken Baseball to Lou Schwechheimer. County communications manager Brian Gleason says everyone remains committed to keeping the Stone Crabs here, especially having just won the Florida State League championship. Schwechheimer has 36 years’ experience in baseball management. Final approval of the sale is up to Major League Baseball.
