Sarasota County is being pressured by state health officials to privatize prenatal care, a move local leaders say would drive patients out of the county, just like it did for Charlotte County a couple years ago. WMFE reports that the Florida Dept. of Health wants out of the public-private partnership currently in place in Sarasota County within the next three years. Only 28 of Florida’s 67 counties offer prenatal care. Critics of the proposal say state lawmakers are only looking at the numbers and not the actual people involved in the process.
