A police standoff outside a Gulf Gate apartment ended safely last night after the suspected bank robber surrendered to police.The robbery happened yesterday afternoon at the Bank of America near Gulf Gate Drive and U.S. 41 around 2:30. It wasn’t long before police had surrounded an apartment about a mile from the bank, where the man they say robbed the bank fled and locked himself inside. He gave up about 8pm. Deputies identify him as 57-year-old John Samuel Gay. He was due in court today for sentencing on a robbery last year.
