Around 9 a.m. yesterday morning, about 5 gallons of raw sewage spilled from a lift station in the area of the 600 block of S. Tamiami Trail in Venice due to grease clog in the sewage line. The spill was immediately contained, the blockage cleared, and the area disinfected. There is no risk to humans or the environment and all appropriate agencies were contacted. It is important to remember to clean grease traps at regular intervals and homeowners should never put grease down the drain, but rather dispose of it in the garbage.
