Venice reports feeling the effects of 10 inches of rain over two days.

The city says the effects this had on the sewer system caused a discharge from manholes in several parts of town. It claims 2,500 gallons leaked last week.

The city’s utilities department worked to keep the system functional, but it remains unclear how much sewage entered water. The city, though, says the rain greatly diluted it. It also says it continues speaking with the DEP and the county health department on this matter.

The utilities department asks people not to open the sewer by lifting manhole covers or removing cleanout caps.
