Dozens of sea turtle nests along the southwest Florida coast are washed out to sea before hatching due to storm surge from Hermine [[ her-MEEN ]]. Naples city officials counted 154 sea turtle nests that were flooded or washed out to sea yesterday at the southern Gulf Coast due to the one to three-foot storm surge that affected beaches in the Naples and Fort Myers areas. Sea turtle hatchlings are expected to begin hatching next month. Authorities expect some of the sea turtles nests will fail to hatch due to storm surge inundation.
