The investigation into a shooting in Venice early yesterday continues.
Sarasota County Sheriff’s deputies got the call just after 2 a.m. on Thursday with respect to a shooting on Loyola Road. Sheriff’s officials said that 22 year old Craig McNeeley told them that he and Sam Meeuwen went home after a fight at the Venice Sports Bar, and were followed by two men who he said were in the fight. McNeeley said he warned the men that he had a weapon and demanded that they get off his property. He said the men then attacked him and Meeuwen, and McNeeley fired the weapon. One of the men was hit, and rushed to hospital where he underwent surgery and is expected to survive, Sheriff’s investigators say they do not expect to file charges against McNeeley, but they are still investigating.
