A new audit shows that a company hired to mow grass along Sarasota County roads routinely submitted invoices for work that was not done. It also shows that county staffers, knowing the invoices could be phony, approved them anyway. Bloomings Landscape and Turf Management abandoned their 1.85 million dollar annual contract in May. The county paid the company 560 thousand dollars for 4 months of work. But the audit says record keeping by both the county and Bloomings was so sloppy that it is “not possible” to determine how much the county should have paid the firm.
