A missionary from Sarasota dies in Haiti. Reports from the island nation say 21-year-old Israel Yoder was swimming off a Haitian beach when he was apparently caught in an undertow and drowned. Yoder had only been in Haiti since last week. He was reportedly doing missionary work on behalf of the Church of Hope off Fruitville Road. Other members of the mission group are now reportedly returning to Sarasota. Meanwhile, the family is working through Congressional contacts to get Yoder’s body returned to the U-S.
