A Sarasota man has received fifteen years in prison for sexual battery against a physically helpless person.
The sheriff’s office says it arrested thirty-four-year-old Gilberto Perez in June of last year.
A twenty-two-year-old blind woman told detectives that she had gone to bed that night in her home. Her roommate and his friends — including Perez — continued drinking.
The woman claimed that she woke up early the next morning with Perez assaulting her. She made her way to her roommate’s room to tell him what happened. He confronted Perez, who ran out of there.
