A 21-year-old man’s in hot water after an explosion Monday afternoon.

Sarasota County Sheriff’s deputies arrested David Branchfield on suspicion of detonating a destructive device. The explosion was reported outside a home in the 3900 block of Marlborough Place in Lake Sarasota. Investigators tell the Herald-Tribune they believe Branchfield was mixing chemicals in a plastic bottle to create an explosion. The size and strength of the blast, and the chemicals used to create it are still being looking into.
