The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a burglary scam. It’s the distraction burglary. SCSO says residents have gotten contacted by someone who says they’re a utility worker, salesperson or laborer. Once in the home, they distract residents and steer them away from the door so someone else can sneak in and steal your valuables, or they take a resident outside under the guise of showing them needed repairs while someone undetected enters the home. The sheriff’s office says
never open the door for someone who arrives unannounced and never let someone do home repairs on the spot.
