The $80-billion budget lawmakers started working on Tuesday has about $1.6-million less in state aid for Sarasota County’s schools. Al Weidner, the district’s deputy CFO says that doesn’t include a plan to allow the district to use capital funds to but site licenses for computer software, which could cost them $1.2-million. The Herald-Tribune reports the budget doesn’t give any clear answers on a plan to give teachers a 1.25% cost of living raise for the upcoming school year. Weidner says there will be some shuffling of money between accounts to try to at least keep the things they paid for last year.
