Stacy Glover’s been sentenced to 10-months in the Sarasota County Jail for killing a dog in Nokomis last August.

The 24-year old military veteran pleaded no contest in April to felony and misdemeanor animal cruelty counts for killing a 19-month old miniature dachsun named Athena. The Herald-Tribune reports Glover says he doesn’t remember what happened the night the dog was killed. He apologized to Athena’s owner Jessie Anderson, adding that he’d been trying to cope with issues from his military service by self-medicating himself with alcohol. Glover will be on probation for three years when he’s released, and have to be evaluated and get treatment alcohol abuse and mental health issues, and complete an anger management course. He will pay $1,500 in restitution to Anderson and a $2,500 fine.
