Sarasota County could host the state high school baseball tournament. The Sarasota County Sports Commission and the Baltimore Orioles are working on a bid that’s due tomorrow to bring the 2013 state tournament to Ed Smith Stadium for the first time since 2008. Hosting the playoffs brings a substantial financial boost to the county. For example, in 2011, Port St. Lucie hosted the tournament. The nine thousand fans booked over 45-hundred hotel room nights and accounted for 600-thousand dollars in economic impact. Best of all, there’s no risk for the county: the Orioles will assume all financial liability.
