Sarasota County Commissioners are discussing a plan that would provide fewer protections and less money for their incoming County Administrator than for his predecessor. Under the plan, incoming Administrator Randall Reid would earn about 24-thousand dollars a year less than former Administrator Jim Ley, who resigned in May. Ley left with a 300-thousand-dollar severance package and if Commissioners approve the new contract, Reid will be entitled to a lot less: twenty weeks’ salary. Backers of the plan say it more closely resembles what’s offered in the private sector.
