A dozen campers and RVs in Punta Gorda remain knee-deep in water following weekend rain on Burnt Store Road.

The site’s owners blame the county, however.

One of them tells WBBH-TV that roadside culverts have not received normal trimmings and cleanings.

The rain has apparently swelled a nearby creek, and the extra debris has backed up the water further.

County public works spokesman John Elias tells the station that the culverts had some blockage, but he identifies heavy rain as the main reason for the flooding.
