Changes are on the way for North Port’s Police Department….

A restructuring of the department’s due to take effect October 1st, based on recommendations from the Center for Public Safety Management. The Herald-Tribune reports it includes dropping the four Lieutenant’s positions, and replacing them with 6 Police Commanders. Four will be assigned as supervisors of the Patrol Division, and one each for the Special Operations and Investigations Divisions; adding a command level presence around the clock. Work’s already underway on hire a new Assistant Chief of Police, and one sworn officers position will be replaced by a Sergeant who’ll be responsible for training. There’s also a tentative deal giving rank and file offivers 3% raises for 2015, 16, and 17.
