The noon deadline came and went today for the Florida legislature to agree on a new congressional district map without a resolution but with plenty of animosity. Leaders from each chamber continued to do battle over differences in district boundaries affecting Sarasota, Hillsborough, and Manatee counties. As the noon approached, the Senate voted to extend the special session until the court-imposed August 25 deadline to keep working; however, the House refused an extension in two nearly-unanimous votes. Unless Gov. Rick Scott reconvenes the legislature and a new map is agreed upon, it will be up to a court to draw the final map sometime in September.
