There’s an effort to cut holiday burglaries in Punta Gorda after officers say there’s been a rising number of cases. The agency is implementing a number of high-profile patrol tactics. Officers will start downtown foot patrols at a higher frequency, distribute flyers warning people to lock their vehicles and keep an eye out for suspicious activity. Officers are also checking cars for items out in the open, which is what leads to most stolen property this time of year.
