There’s a for a new canal that would substantially cut the boaters spend navigating through Punta Gorda Isles. It would be dug near Sea Edge Drive right where Punta Gorda Isles meets Alligator Creek, a waterway leading to Charlotte Harbor. NBC2 reports the Punta Gorda Boaters Alliance’s raising $6,000 for a study of the proposal, which a spokesperson says could cut the time it takes to get to Charlotte Harbor, improve water flow, and raise the value of area properties. The land needed for the canal’s privately, and the city of Punt Gorda’s considering swapping unused city land for the canal site.
