Finally, last night, 25-year-old Samira Silva of Port Charlotte died when the motorcycle she was riding on I-275 in St. Petersburg lost control and struck a guardrail and then several trees around 7:30pm. Floriday Highway Patrol says Silva was pronounced dead at the scene. The bike’s operator, 35-year-old Giovanni Castro of North Port, was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries. Both riders were wearing helmets. Investigators say that alcohol was not a factor but that charges are pending against Castro.
