A Port Charlotte couple is in the hospital after a tractor-trailer turned in front of their motorcycle in Highlands County. The Florida Highway Patrol says that 58-year-old Ray Donald Gates, Jr, and 56-year-old Nancy Gates were taken to Florida Hospital Lake Placid with serious injuries. Ray was later flown to Tampa General Hospital for further treatment. The truck driver was not injured, but he was cited for a right-of-way violation. Both the Gateses were wearing helmets.
