The pool at the Al Goll Recreational Center in North Port may be shut down before it gets a chance to be renovated.

Late last month, the pool failed a health inspection done by the state. Five different violations were found- water clarity/algae, pool finish, water level/control, pressure and other equipment.

The state health department ordered that corrective measures be done by September- a responsibility that would fall on the SKY Family YMCA.

The North Port city commission, which is looking into a public-private partnership for renovating the entire rec center, voted 4-1 last night to “let the pool ride out its usefulness.” Refurbishing the pool would cost an estimated $400,000.
