A New Year’s Eve without the Pineapple Drop in downtown Sarasota, at least, not an official one. The Downtown Sarasota Alliance scrapped plans for the annual pineapple drop and street fair that’s brought tens of thousands to Sarasota for the New Year’s celebration. Now, downtown businesses have been scrambling and say they’ve put together a New Year’s party tomorrow night that will be just as good, only indoors. A number of restaurants and night spots working to try to keep the atmosphere and, they hope, draw the crowds of Pineapple Drops Past.
