A pedestrian visiting Longboat Key was killed Friday night.
Police said a local businessman was on his way home around 6:30 p.m. when the unidentified pedestrian tried to cross Gulf of Mexico Drive in the 29 hundred block. Police said the driver couldn’t stop and his car struck the pedestrian. The driver got out and immediately called 911 and tried to help the victim. First responders got to the scene, but could not save the victim who was pronounced dead.
