An attack on urban blight in Port Charlotte. The Charlotte County Commission voting to pump nine million dollars into revitalizing the city’s Parkside area, which was formerly a popular recreation site but has since deteriorated. Commissioners agreeing with neighborhood groups that revamping infrastructure in the area will not only clean it up but help attract users back to areas like McGuire Park. The nine million dollar funding will jumpstart the project, although planners estimated it will take another 26 million to compete the work.
