Venice Police and Fire responded to a boat crash in the Intracoastal Waterway Sunday evening. The police marine patrol arrived at the scene, across the ICW from Venice High School, to find the driver of the boat, 37-year old John Antolak, 37, supporting the unconscious victim, 41 Alicia Starkweather, who’d suffered severe injuries when the 17-foot Bayliner vessel hit the rock revetment on the side of the canal. Both people were in the water when the marine patrol arrived. Starkweather was immediately placed in the police boat and transported to Marina Park boat ramp. The fire department set up a landing zone near the boat ramp for Bayflite to take the victim to Blake Medical Trauma Center. The victim died shortly after being transported. Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission and Venice Police are investigating the accident
