North Port’s mayor has decided to run for a different district on the city commission.

When Jacqueline Moore won an election two years ago, she took the seat for District 4.

However, new district lines that formed five months ago put her outside that district.

Now Moore says she intends to resign from her current seat in November as she runs for the seat in District 2.

Voters passed an amendment four years ago that divided the city into five districts, with one commissioner elected from each. Two years ago, they denied an amendment to remove district residency requirements.

The election takes place Aug. 30. If necessary, then a run-off would follow Nov. 8.
