How do you hide a 27-ton earth-moving machine. The City of North Port is missing one. Sometime over the weekend of March 18th, person or persons unknown took a hydraulic excavator from a canal dredging site at Serris Drive and Raintree Boulevard. Normally, machines are returned to the city maintenance yard, but because of the size of the Caterpillar 320DL, unloading it, transporting, to the work site and back can take half of an 8-hour work day. A city spokesperson tells the Herald-Mail whoever stole it had to know how to operate it.
