North Port’s gotten a new honor. Washington, D.C. based non profit KaBOOM!’s named the city one of the most playful in the nation. A KaBOOM! spokesperson says cities apply for the title under the Playful City USA program. The Herald-Tribune reports the program promotes and supports local policies that help increase play opportunities for kids. Winners are eligible for a $15,000 to $30,000 grant through Let’s Play, a community partnership led by Dr. Pepper Snapple Group to keep families active nationwide. North Port was praised for its adopt-a-park program, which recruits volunteers to help maintain and beautify local neighborhood parks.
